12- Month Action Plan ADAPT Coalition

DFC Goal 1: Increase community collaboration

Objective 1: By September 29, 2018, increase by 30% the total number of active sector representatives in coalition leadership team activities as compared to baseline data of 41 active sector representatives, as measured by the activity sign-in sheet.

Strategy 1: Provide information, training, and outreach to community groups and community leaders to recruit sector representation to leadership teams.

Activity: Conduct outreach to at least 2 civic organizations, educational institutions, community groups, or social service agencies within each leadership team geographical area that needs additional sector representation to orient them to ADAPT’s mission and to directly recruit sector representatives ADAPT Advisory Board

Objective 2: By September 29, 2018, ADAPT members will demonstrate a 10% increase in satisfaction of their defined roles and responsibilities as compared to baseline data initially recorded in October 2016, as measured by the satisfaction survey readministered in September 2018.

Strategy 1: Provide information on clearly defined roles/responsibilities for members and provide support and opportunities to have ownership in ADAPT.

Activity:  Establish sponsorship opportunities that are affordable and workable for a wide variety of organizations and businesses

Objective 3: By September 29, 2018, increase coalition membership by 20%, defined by annually assisting with at least one activity or making a monetary contribution, baseline data as 71 current members, as measured by number of new coalition members.

Strategy 1: Enhance access and reduce barriers for Coalition Members’ to fully utilize talents and capabilities to further the mission of ADAPT’s overall efforts.

Activity:  Conduct member questionnaire to ensure the time/day/location for meetings continues be best for all members

DFC Goal 2: Reduce youth substance use

Objective 1: By September 29, 2018, reduce 7th grade 30 day alcohol use from 10% to 8%; reduce 9th grade 30 day alcohol use from 23% to 18%; and reduce 10th grade 30 day use from 30% to 25% as measured by Search Institute Survey.

Strategy 1: Enhance alcohol resistance skills.

Activity:  Partner with the Aiming High Program on the evidenced based Too Good For Drugs Curriculum in grades K-4

Activity: Conduct a county-wide awareness campaign on the health ramifications of youth alcohol use and properly securing alcohol stored in the home

Activity: Poll members of the leadership teams to determine to which community groups they are connected (e.g. PTA, a church group etc..)

Activity: Have each member present basic information to community groups to which they are connected on what the community can do to reduce underage drinking

Activity: Conduct a community wide awareness campaign on CDC guidelines for low risk alcohol use, which includes complete abstinence for all under the age of 21

Objective 2: By September 29, 2018, increase 7th graders’ perception of risk related to marijuana use from 75% to 80%; increase 9th graders’ perception of risk related to marijuana use from 63% to 68%, and increase 10th graders’ perception of risk related to marijuana use from 52% to 57%, as measured by the Search Institute Survey.

Strategy 1: Provide support and enhance skills to prevent marijuana use.


Activity: Partner with the Start Talking program on the evidence based Life Skills Curriculum for youth in 5th and 6th grade

Activity: Engage Youth Coalition in a social media campaign to disseminate risks associated with marijuana use

Objective 3: By September 29, 2018, increase by 10% the amount of prescription drugs

collected from Columbiana County residents in the 7 county-wide “Medication Only” Lock Boxes, as compared to the baseline data of 385 pounds as measured by the collection sheet completed by the County Drug Task Force.

Strategy1: Reduce access and risk of prescription drug abuse by promoting and encouraging county residents to utilize the 6 county-wide “Medication Only” Lock Boxes thus promoting protection.

Activity: Conduct community trainings on issues of misuse and mishandling of prescription drugs

Activity: Conduct Parents 360 RX research based media campaign targeting parents on the risk of prescription drug abuse and importance of secure storage and proper disposal incorporating printed materials, window clings and posters

Activity: Attend county fair, community health fairs, leadership team events to increase awareness of the 7 locations of the “Medication Only” Lock Boxes

Activity: Disseminate the FDA and White House Office of National Drug Control Policy guidelines on safe and effective drug disposal

Objective 4: By September 29, 2018, reduce access to alcohol among 12-18 year olds through the reduction in alcohol sales to minors by 10% as compared to baseline of 21 non-compliant retailers/vendors from the Ohio Department of Public Safety 2010-2014 Investigative Unit Compliance Report.

Strategy 1: Educate local alcohol permit holders.

Activity: Conduct an environmental scan for appropriate store signage to ensue ID checks, appropriate advertising and product placement. Provide vendor packets to permit holders.

Activity: Educate retailers concerning the risks, and consequences of underage drinking within the community, product placement and secure their commitment to reduce underage drinking.

Strategy 2: Change Law Enforcement practices

Activity: Encourage the implementation of compliance checks by police departments.

Activity: Promote regular Compliance Checks within the community as a means to prevent risky behaviors among youth.

Activity: Encourage law enforcement follow through with citations issuance to non-compliant retailers and vendors
